To Blog or To Vlog?

I'm not a pro at this blogging stuff...not yet anyway.  I started this blog many years ago to have some way of writing about experiences I've had.  I'm not into earning money, at least, right now, not yet.  If someone learned something from something I've written, gets another view point, or has a chuckle, that was good.  I've recently thought about getting rid of my blog, but something told me no. Instead, I thought maybe I could even vlog!  When I hear those words: Blogging and Vlogging, I had to find out what the difference was first.

After doing some reading of blogs and viewings of vlogs (and reading other websites), I'll define blogs and vlogs this way:

A “blog” is usually an informal, personal website someone creates to share with others online.  Writers reflect or give an opinion of something, they may teach readers how to do something, or they may rant in written form.   Some writers will let readers comment on what they’ve written.

A “vlog” is a blog in a video format.

I’ve thought a lot about reworking this blog, which I started many years ago.  I’m even thinking about doing a vlog. I'm thinking I'll combine the two, as I do like to write, but video can be cool too.  As I sit down to start on my project, there are many questions! Questions like:

Should I blog? Should I vlog?  Can I do both?  I like the idea of vlogging and blogging.  Maybe it'll eventually turn into all vlogging, but for now...let's say both.

What should I blog or vlog about?  What should I talk about?  I could just be random, like I started...

Wow, would you look at that! The clouds are simply amazing today. The weather a bit brisk, but perfect for sweatshirts and jeans.  Ahhh..  Oh wait, um.

Where was I?  Oh yes, what could I talk or write about? I can change topics pretty quickly.  That would be sort of a “Get what you get” theme.  This would give me leeway to interview others.  I could also teach how to do something.  I could karaoke…on second thought, no, I couldn’t.  As I practice and improve my skills, this will work, I think, for my blog and vlog.  Plus, it’ll get me engaged now in the process of creating.

What sort of camera should I be using? Can I use my phone? Should I invest in expensive equipment? I need editing software! Oh goodness…this is going to be expensive, isn’t it?  Thankfully, with a bit of fun research (okay, I simply read a few blogs and watched a few vlogs), I have learned there isn’t any expensive equipment necessary.  Maybe I’ll invest in higher end equipment later, but to get started, I can use the camera on my phone and use the free “movie maker” on my laptop.  (Apple computers have a similar free software called “imovie”.)

To help choose exactly what to write or talk about, I’ll have to carry a notebook around with me, so I can jot notes down of what I see, what I do, and experiences I have.  I could also use a recording app on my phone to help me remember these ideas, too, but I think the notebook would work for me best...right now.  Maybe this will get me out more too.  Some days... It seems as if I'm going from home to work...and back home.  I do a lot though.  I need to make the time to jot down!
